CCB lumen is a new brightness unit proposed by a Chinese projector brand, trying to replace the current mainstream international standard ANSI lumens. The full name of CCB is cinema color bright. Can such a brightness standard really replace ANSI lumens? I personally think it is impossible.
The difference between CCB lumens and ANSI lumens
As a new brightness unit, CCB lumens, compared with ANSI lumens, the biggest difference lies in the measurement method of screen brightness. ANSI lumens test the brightness of nine points on the image screen, and calculate the average value of the brightness of each point, while CCB lumens add four more points to the nine points of ANSI lumens to obtain more accurate brightness. In order to highlight the difference between the brightness values measured by the two different way, this company used a LCD projector as a test device. As we all know, one of the biggest of cons of LCD projector is the brightness uneven. But if we use the mainstream DLP projector or 3LCD projector instead, the difference can be ingnored. In addition, CCB lumens claims to reflect the brightness of three primary colors, but in fact, ANSI lumens can also represent color brightness, just need to perform the corresponding numerical measurement, no need to add new brightness units.
Can CCB lumens replace ANSI lumens?
Personally think that BBC lumens won’t replace ANSI lumens. CCB lumens only slightly changed the way of ANSI lumen measurement obtaining the brightness value of more positions on the screen, which may make the obtained picture brightness value more accurate, but it didn’t make substantial progress. A new standard that can be taken by a industry should bring the old standard to a new level, at least can cover more factors that was ingnored by the old sandard. BBC lumens, however, basically just get a new name, it may make sense for LCD projectors, but LCD projector itself is the pronoun of low-end projector, ans is quiting the projector market. If a new brightness unit is needed, at least it should target on the maintream projector market.
