LED projectors are widely seen in some smart home projectors. As one of the three mainstream light sources of the projector including lamp, LED, and the laser, LED light source has its own pros and cons.
Pros of LED Light source
Natural Color
Compared with traditional bulbs, LED light source features three primary colors without the need for a color wheel. In addition, it can emit more pure light and therefore the color gamut is greatly improved. The projected image color is real and natural, without obvious color drift.
Long Life Span
LED light source won’t generate too much heat when projecting light, and hence the brightness attenuation is slow. The service life is longer, completely comparable to the laser.
Lower Noise
It merits to mention that LED projector is better in terms of heat dissipation. So it is not necessary to equip a high-power fan for heat dissipation. The noise is relatively low compared with a lamp-based projector.
Low Cost
Compared with laser projectors, the cost of LED is lower, which can significantly reduce the price of the whole machine, suitable for home use.
Cons of LED Light source
Lower Brightness
The disadvantage of LED light sources is brightness. Most of the smart projectors’ brightness does not exceed 2000 ANSI lumens, which makes it difficult to project a large screen in a bright environment. That is why LED projectors cannot completely eliminate traditional bulb-based projectors. In fact, The LED light source can also give high brightness, for example, HLD (High Lumen Density). However, the size and cost of the projector will increase if you want higher brightness.
