This review is about the entry-level model DLA-N5 in the JVC 4K series. It uses a 0.69-inch original 4K D-ILA panel with the same specification as Zeus in the key core display chip. The physical resolution reaches DCI 4K level (4096× 2160), supports mainstream 3840 × 2160 Ultra HD display specifications. At the same time, it is compatible with the two mainstream HDR high dynamic range technical specifications, including HDR10 and HLG respectively, and has the interesting HDR automatic tone mapping function.
There is no doubt that DLA-N5 is a strong achievement of JVC. In addition to the focus of the native 4K display panel, it also optimizes 4K HDR image processing, which has become a hot spot in the field of customized installation for many video lovers and industries.
Fuselage design and function configuration
In front of the fuselage, there is a huge 65mm diameter high-precision lens with 17 pieces and 15 groups of all glass lenses.
There are two HDMI interfaces at the rear of the fuselage. In particular, a screw is fixed under each HDMI interface. Even when connecting some large and heavy HDMI optical fiber cables, the interface will not be loose due to long-term use, which will affect the stable transmission of signals.
Due to the 4K chip and the new optical engine, in order to make the projector operate stably, the front and rear of the DLA-N5 body are equipped with heat dissipation holes, which means that if it is installed on the ceiling, we must ensure that there is enough space behind the projector.
Main functions of image adjustment
The picture function menu structure is basically the same as that of JVC’s previous home theater projector series. In the picture basic adjustment menu, you can find the image mode, color configuration, color temperature, gamma, MPC level, motion control, contrast, brightness, color and color fine-tuning functions.
In the image mode, you can find 4 picture preset modes and 6 user-defined modes, including common natural, cinema, HDR10 and HLG modes.
For the automatic aperture function, JVC has given the DLA-N5 two gear automatic adjustment function this time. In fact, the DLA-N5 itself has a good black position, which is quite good even if the automatic light source is not turned on.
Enter the color configuration menu, you can turn on the color management function to effectively adjust RGBCMY.
In terms of color temperature adjustment, in addition to selecting the preset values of different color temperatures, it can also be micro-tuned through two gray stages: highlight and dark.
Summary
In terms of actual picture performance, DLA-N5 based on 0.69-inch 4K ultra-high definition display chip certainly has very fine picture details. When watching HDR10 films originally shot by high-quality digital 4K, you don’t have a sense of distortion even if you watch 130 inch large pictures at a close distance of about 2 meters. The picture is extremely smooth and three-dimensional.
