You may know 4K projectors are divided into True 4K projectors and Faux-K projectors. The major difference between True 4K and Faux-K is whether the XPR technology is adopted.
True 4K projectors have native physical resolution of 4K, and Faux-K projectors can deliver image output of 8.3 million pixels same as 4K by means of shifting pixels, but its native resolution is above 4K.
Most smart DLP projectors comes with 0.47 DMD chip and 0.66 DMD chip, with help of XPR technology, both of them are able to deliver image of 8.3 million pixels, which is 4K. However, if we look into these two kinds of Faux-K projectors, or more specifically Faux-K projectors with 0.47 DMD chip and 0.66 DMD chip, we still find slight difference.
0.66 DMD chip with XPR technology makes the pixel shift diagonally to double the pixel amount, and 0.47 DMD chip with XPR technology moves the pixel shift vertically and horizontally to quadruple the pixel amount, both of them in this way can enable the pixel amount up to 8.3 million.
However, when you compare the two images offered by 0.47 DMD chip and 0.66 DMD chip, you may notice that image of 0.47 DMD chip is blurrier and fuzzier than of 0.66 DMD chip.
So even if projector with 0.47 DMD chip and 0.66 DMD chip that adopt XPR technology are all Faux-K projectors, there is still slight difference between them. You may take it into consideration when buying a Faux-K projector.
